Grahame Maxwell is the Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police. Grahame Maxwell took up the post as Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police in May 2007. He brings nearly 25 years of policing experience to the role, ranging from a PC on the beat in Middlesbrough through to his previous post as Deputy Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police.Policing, for Grahame, is in the blood – with his father a Chief Constable of a village in Durham until retirement, a sister who is a serving Officer and a brother in law who was also an Officer prior to retirement.Grahame has enjoyed a varied career, starting with Cleveland Police as a bobby on the beat in Middlesbrough and progressing through to Chief Superintendent. During his time at Cleveland he covered a mix of both uniform and CID roles.In 2000 Grahame attended the Police Strategic Command Course where after graduating he was appointed as an Assistant Chief Constable with the West Yorkshire Police. During the four years he spent in West Yorkshire he undertook two portfolios, initially as ACC Specialist Operations and then latterly as the ACC Territorial Operations.In January 2005, Grahame took up post as Deputy Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police. During his tenure, he introduced a new performance framework to the Force, restructured policing in Sheffield, assisted in introducing Neighbourhood Policing force wide and was instrumental in driving the Force’s overall change programme.Nationally he has a wide range of interests, including trafficked people, where he is the UK lead and spokesperson for the Association of Chief Police Officers ACPO. He was recently the programme director for the UK wide anti human trafficking operation – Pentameter – and he is the new programme director for the United Kingdom Human Trafficking Centre UKHTC.Grahame is a graduate of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, has an MBA from Durham University Business School and a post graduate diploma in Criminology from Cambridge University. He attended the 190th FBI National Academy at Quantico Virginia and the 2004 Royal College of Defence Studies course. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management and a Member of the Institute of Directors.Grahame has been married for twenty one years to Julie. They have a fifteen year old son Frazer and two Labrador dogs.
