Michael Fuller is the Chief Constable of Kent Police. Michael Fuller joined Kent Police as Chief Constable in January 2004.Michael joined the Metropolitan Police Service as a cadet in 1975. He has served in busy and demanding uniformed and CID positions throughout London and this has included service at New Scotland Yard.AchievementsWhile a Detective Chief Inspector DCI stationed at Shepherds Bush and Hammersmith, he devised an innovative burglary control programme, which formed the basis for the Metropolitan Police anti burglary operation, ‘Operation Bumblebee’.As DCI at Paddington he devised innovative covert techniques to successfully tackle street robbery under the Operation Eagle Eye initiative.As a Detective Superintendent based in the Home Office, he worked as Staff Officer specialising in giving advice and carrying out inspections in relation to crime and counter terrorism within Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary. He also gave regular advice to the Chief HMI, Home Secretary and government ministers.In 1998 while at Scotland Yard, he helped set up the groundbreaking Racial and Violent Crime Task Force in response to criticism of the Metropolitan Police arising from the Stephen Lawrence inquiry.Subsequent appointments and achievements have included chief superintendent of Battersea police station commander of the West Area serious crime group overseeing murder and serious crime investigations head of the Drugs Directorate deputy assistant commissioner director of intelligence as part of the new specialist crime directorate at New Scotland Yard.Man of the YearIn 2001 he won the G2 ‘Man of the Year Award’ in recognition of his personal achievements and contribution to policing in London. He was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for distinguished service in July 2004.QualificationsAs well as the holder of a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in social psychology, he has attained a Masters in business administration from Henley Management College and holds post graduate diplomas in law, marketing and criminology. He holds an honorary Doctorate of Laws from Sussex University and the University of East London.He is a non practising barrister and was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in July 2007.
