Richard Brunstrom is the Chief Constable of North Wales Police. Richard Brunstrom joined Sussex Police in 1979 as a zoology graduate, and spent 11 years with the Force.In 1990, he moved to Greater Manchester Police as a Superintendent, serving initially in Old TraffordStretford and then the Moss SideLongsight areas. He regularly commanded the policing of Manchester United and Manchester City Football Clubs, and acquired extensive operational experience policing areas of inner city deprivation. Latterly he was Divisional Commander at Bury.Mr. Brunstrom was appointed as Assistant Chief Constable in Cleveland in September 1995 and subsequently promoted to Deputy Chief Constable in that force. He joined North Wales Police at the beginning of 2000 and was appointed Chief Constable in January 2001.ResponsibilitiesThe Chief Constable is responsible for drug treatment in Wales and his leadership on a multi agency level has been instrumental in developing issues such as drug related death forms and many other initiatives relating to substance misuse across North Wales.Mr. Brunstrom has championed diversity throughout the Force, through the recruitment of people from ethnic minority groups and by increasing the recruitment of female officers. He has also become fluent in the Welsh language and is the Welsh language representative for all of the Welsh police forces.His determination to collaborate with other police forces and emergency services has resulted in the formation of the Joint Emergency Services Group. One major success from this Group is the joint emergency control room between the emergency services in North Wales. This partnership working has also been extended to other forces outside Wales.
